MADLY IN ANGER WITH ONTARIO, PART 1

Third show on this tour, fourth overall. This one had an excellent setlist, a near-perfect blend of old and new songs, including three that I'd never heard live before: The Unforgiven, Fade to Black (FINALLY!!!), and Disposable Heroes. The crowd was pretty loud, bigger than Vancouver but not quite at Calgary's level. Godsmack kicked major ass, even though they left out Re-Align. Still, I have so much respect for these guys and their energy level. It is not easy opening for Metallica, especially given the ravenous and often-judgmental fans, but 'Smack is a perfect opener at this stage of the game.
I was on the floor, of course, and I decided to take up residence on the opposite side of the stage from my usual position. I was a little north of where Lars stands and finishes; he was right in front of me during Creep and One. I also finally saw Gio (more on him in a sec) and James spent a lot of time by the mic I was right close to. At one point of the night we exchanged a solid high-five! Kirk did Solo #1 right in front of me, the man is simply awesome!
Performance highlights would have been the three songs mentioned above, as well as Frantic, Clover (Rob's bass sound on this was HUGE!!!), and the always-amazing Nothing Else Matters, which I let mommy hear over the phone. Disposable simply kicks maximum ass, and this was probably the tightest performance of that song on the tour so far.
Near the end of the show I busted out my now-famous PRICELESS sign in an attempt to score James' wristband. Gio loved it and read it to the other security guys through his headset, and during Disposable he walked up to me and handed me the amp design guitar pick. Kirk also got a kick out of it, and reached out and HANDED me a St. Anger pick! Ha ha Dani I TOUCHED KIRK!!! And then James came around and gave me a solid high-five, but alas, no wristband. BUT THAT'S NOT ALL!!! Niclas saw the sign, took a couple pictures of me, and PUT ME ON HIS SILLY LITTLE WEBSITE!!!

I am forever immortalized in the annals of Metallica history thanks to the wonder that is the MetOnTour website. The news of this made me happy for the rest of the tour (as if I needed anything further, I'd already slapped skin with Papa Het and the Ripper!). What a great first night!!! And then it was on to Ottawa to meet up with Hilary and do it all over again!
