The
boys first trip to South Africa started early, with them arriving in Joberg this morning. Later on after a quick nap or two,
they did a press conference, and a few interviews as well. Next on the agenda was the always fun and exciting sound check.
A couple fans snuck in right at the start, and just as security was going to kick them out, Lars yells out from behind the
kit, "HEY! They can stay, it's all right." Audience of two, your show is about to begin. (Later I heard there was about 300
fans outside the venue as well.) Some of the songs heard during sound check were _____, _____, _____ and ______. (insert what
song you think they played!)

"Bill,
Geezer, Ozzy, Tony, if it weren't for you, we wouldn't be here" said Lars while inducting Black Sabbath to the Rock And Roll
Hall Of Fame. Lars also added "if there was no Black Sabbath, there would be no Metallica, and I could possibly still be a
newspaper delivery boy." I think we are all happy there is a Black Sabbath, and just as happy there is a Metallica. After
James and Lars inducted Sabbath, they joined their mates Rob and Kirk (both Lars and Rob donning Black Sabbath shirts) and
ran thru a blistering 2-song set that consisted of "Hole In The Sky" and "Iron Man." The guys were very psyched to have the
honor of inducting Sabbath, and playing for them.

So there we are, hanging out at HQ getting
ready for our first visit to South Africa, and a call comes in wondering if we can leave a few days early and stop by New
York to induct a bunch of guys from Birmingham, England (they're called Black Sabbath, you might've heard of them) into the
Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. It took us all of 3/4 of a second to say "fuck yeah!!"
Black Sabbath wrote the book on heavy music, and like many other snot-nosed kids, we read it religiously over and over
again. For all of us in Metallica, Black Sabbath are a major influence not only on our music, but on our lives, and as you
can imagine, we're psyched to join Bill, Geezer, Ozzy, and Tony for the induction ceremony on Monday, March 13.
Not only will we be inducting Sabbath, we are going to make a humble attempt at playing some of their songs live in front
of the gathered masses, including, most humbling of all, the four members of the band themselves.
If you want to check it out, VH-1 will be there with their cameras. For show times look here.
Metallica announces Rick Rubin is producing their album!!
We just wanted to let our friends know that we have been jamming, writing,
just plain messing around and having fun in the studio for the last few weeks.
Oh, and by the way, this up and coming producer guy named Rick something-or other, has been coming
by the studio every now and again to listen to some of our new stuff and throw his two/three cents in.
Since this Rick dude is new to all of this, we thought it would be a nice gesture to help break him into the music business by asking him to produce our next record. We're very happy he said yes! In other words, we are psyched to share with you
that Rick Rubin is producing the next Metallica album! FUCK YEAH!

Andrew, Ken and Ren all won reservations for ordering Fan Can 5, and Ren has been notified of her oppotunity to buy!
Hmmmm....I wonder what's inside??

Kirk
performs on Santana's new album, "All That I Am".

"All That I Am." The album by the multi-Grammy winning Santana, and fellow Bay Area resident, will be in-stores on November
1, 2005. Other artists collaborations are: Sean Paul, Michelle Branch, Mary J. Blige, Los Lonely Boys, Big Boi, Joss Stone,
Bo Bice and Steven Tyler.

Metallica is featured in a special DVD series called "Directors Label Series" that includes 2 of their videos, "Hero of
the Day" and "Mama Said." Other artists on this special Anton Corbijn DVD include Nirvana, U2, Depeche Mode, Henry Rollins,
and more!
Also on this DVD is commentary from the band, and a new documentary called "NOTNA" about Anton featuring interviews with
Lars Ulrich.

Kirk will be performing with Flux Quartet in a World Premiere collaboration.
The 50th Anniversary Season begins with an electrifying concert featuring special guest artist, Metallica's Kirk Hammett,
performing with FLUX Quartet in a World Premiere collaboration: SAS (for string quartet and improvised electric guitar), a
work written by the Quartet's experimental violinist Thomas Chiu. "FLUX and Kirk are a perfect fit for this innovative and
aleatoric composition," says Artistic Director Saul Gropman. "FLUX has an "anything goes" spirit, and Kirk's broad improvisational
skills bring this piece together as a magical marriage of two styles."

NEBCM’S METALLICA CHAPTER PARTY!!
TODAY’S PARTY WAS
A ROARING SUCCESS!!
Please all welcome our newest member, Keith from North Vancouver!! We all met at the Two Parrots downtown- members in attendance were Richard (outgoing Chapter Head), Erik
(newly elected Chapter Head), Ren, Steve, Josh, as well as welcome guests, Tasha and Dillon.
Richard arrived with a big ol’ wack o’ shwag from HQ- inside were St. Anger stencils (great for jackets
and walls-“Just stencil it on the wall and put a frame around it!”), Metallica guitar picks, loads of stickers
and promotional posters from the album St. Anger, as well as laminated lyric-cheat sheets from James Hetfield!!!
We all ordered some grub and proceeded to join each other in fellowship- swapping
stories about good times had at Metallica shows and reminiscing about how Nothing Else In B.C. Matters was formed after Richard,
Danica and Erik met following the Seattle Sanitarium 03’ show. Ren talked about how she and Steve were at the Meet and Greet in Vancouver
at the March 26, 04’ show, and found themselves sitting in the same row in Seattle the
next night. There were some excellent bootlegs that a member brought, and both
Keith and Steve were able to take home shows that they had previously attended!
Erik was elected ‘un-unanimously’ to be the new Chapter Head after
some good natured shit disturbing veto action- (Sneaky Metallifux!!) The new
dictator promised to ‘run the chapter to the best of his ability with help from the other chapter members’- any
suggestions and ideas are welcome, THIS IS YOUR CHAPTER AND TOGETHER WE CAN MAKE IT THE BEST OF TIMES FOR METALLICA FANS IN
THE BC/YUKON AREA!!!
Thanks to all who were able to make it, (and those who weren’t as well- you
were missed and we hope you can make future NEBCM get-togethers!!) We still have
lots of good shit to share from the goodies sent by HQ, so if you are in the Vancouver area, give Erik a call for some coffee
and feel free to grab some stickers (the two lyric sheets are up for grabs!!)
HORNS UP METAL HEADS!! BANG THE HEAD THAT DOESN’T
BANG!!

Nothing Else in BC Matters is having a Chapter Party!
On Sunday, August 28th, from 2pm-4pm, at The Two Parrots (corner of Davie and Granville)
in Vancouver, BC, NEBCM will be having a Chapter Meeting/Farewell Party.
This is a very important meeting, as NEBCM will be saying goodbye to its original Chapter Head,
Richard, and having an acclamation vote for his successor. For everybody that has been involved with NEBCM since its origin,
and those who have known Richard even before we formed our Chapter, this will be the last chance to say goodbye in person
to him before he moves to Halifax to pursue graduate studies at Dalhousie University.
This will also be the first opportunity to get to know and work with Erik as the new Chapter
Head of Nothing Else in BC Matters. Erik is one of the original members of NEBCM and he is looking forward to taking the Chapter
to the next level!
There will be goodies handed out, laughs shared, stories told, tearful goodbyes, more laughs,
more goodies (courtesy of the Metallica Club), and good memories created to carry the spirit of NEBCM all the way to Nova
Scotia.
We look forward to seeing you on Sunday, August 28th at 2pm @ The Two Parrots (corner
of Davie and Granville) in downtown Vancouver!
